When meeting with your lawyer, always stick to the facts, good and bad. Ask questions if you do not understand something, and ask what you can do to help reduce costs. Provide your lawyer with a convenient way and time to contact you.

You are buying your lawyer's time so the less you use, the less the cost...

Before going to see your lawyer, get all of your papers and documents together, write out in point form a list of all relevant points, (note names and addresses of witnesses if applicable) and list the specific issues you want advice on. If dealing with real estate, bring in the legal description of the lands and names of the owners.

Appointments when possible will permit your lawyer to better manage his time and ensure you will be able to see him. Appointments with a walkin option is available for Notarizations, Travel Consents and other minor matters where documents do not have to be prepared and legal advice is not required. Do not request legal advice by phone or email unless you are an active client.

Always make sure to attend at your lawyer's office with proper Photo Identification and always make sure you give the person booking your appointment sufficient information to reserve enough time for you.

If you are unable to make an appointment with your lawyer, 24 hours notice is required to avoid a No Show charge.

Be Realistic - You don't want to spend $1,000.00 on legal fees to recover a $400.00 debt. Make yourself aware of small claims court, student legal services and other facilities available for minor legal matters.
